The power of writing the vision and creating a Vision Board

I don't know about you but I feel like I would like to get my money back for my 2022 subscription. All jokes aside, I would like to plan for this year by putting together a Vision Board

Early in 2020 I created my first Vision Board. It took a few iterations to figure out exactly what I wanted to go into it. I stumbled through the first couple of tries and put in too much text and then a bunch of photos of things that I liked like shoes and purses but that didn't exactly reflect what I was working towards. I took everything down and started up again from scratch and finally got it right. I put “Travel to Kenya” in my 2020 Vision Board. At the time, it seemed so unattainable especially because I was coming out of a period of being off work for a year in 2019 and had just started my gradual return.

I found I was mostly cautious and not really looking to have anything particularly "out there" and then I decided to challenge myself by putting a few things that felt unattainable. One of those things was Kenya. We are a family of five and quite frankly it didn't feel attainable and for that exact reason I put it on there: like let's see if this Vision Board thing actually works.

We'll you already know what happened to the rest of 2020. It felt even less attainable in March 2020 when the pandemic hit. I remember when December of 2020 came along I was really just down and discouraged and wondering if it would ever happen. When I put together my 2021 Vision Board, there were still quite a number of items that hadn't yet come to pass so rather than start from scratch, I simply tweaked what I already had from 2020.

There was this doubt creeping in constantly telling me are you really going to go? Will this really happen? Well as you know vaccines became available in 2021 and in the summer of 2021 we were in quite a different place financially (also on the Vision board!). We took the plunge and bought our tickets in the Summer of 2021 during a seat sale for KLM. Just before we travelled, Omicron hit, there were all sorts of doubts crept up on whether we should really travel or not. We decided to go for it because there wasn't going to be a better time to travel.

Turns out this was the set time and the perfect time for us to go! The first time hubby and I went to Kenya was in 2011 for our traditional engagement (ayie) and here we were returning 10 years later - with a full testimony of God's goodness towards us. This was also my first time returning as a Daktari - PhD doctor. It had been a tough year for my Dad so this glimmer of hope was so timely. Given that this was a big trip for us, we decided to indulge a little and include a safari in our trip. It is not until we got back from Kenya that I noticed that the picture I had used in the Vision Board had elephants on Safari.

I have so many other stories of how powerful putting together a Vision Board has been for me and for us as a family. I remember the scripture from Habakkuk 2:2-3

Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak and will not lie. Though it tarries wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. - Habakkuk 2:2-3

We really had a blast at Career Slay Mama's second annual Vision Board Party on January 23rd. There is so much that has happened in 2 years and I am excited to replace items on the Vision Board while also maintaining those that have tarried because they will surely come!

Your 2022 is depending on it and remember it is never too late to write the vision! If you're ready to go from Vision to Action join me for the signature program from Career Slay Mama! You can also catch the replay of the vision board party here!
